Yesterday was the Hong Kong Secondary School Certificate Exams announcement (Junior high exams before pre college classes) and naturally many could be worried. International star Chow Yun Fat said, "Naturally if you could pass, that's good. But if you miss, you should be happier." Why would he say that. He was not ridiculing those who did not do well but was trying to encourage them. He said that because they would be leaving the school grounds and entering another stage of life and it would be a long road. Learning has many ways and the most important is to hold on to your goals, know what you want, know what you like to do and gradually work hard towards it and develop.
Chow said, "Do not be too restricted in your vision. Do not place too much importance on failure or success. Look at William Hung. He didn't care whether people like him or not, he does his best. In any case, studying is not man's ultimate goal."
Chow reminded the students who did not do well not to do foolish things. Go have a drink with your schoolmate, go karaoke a bit and perhaps go vacation with your family and friends and relax.
Using himself as an example, he said, "I didn't even finish Form 3 and have worked in many fields. I learn as I work. The most important is to have perseverance, be determined. Young kids could stand a bit of hardship. Life is not smooth sailing everyday. If you haven't suffered before, how could you tell sweetness and treasure things!"
Chow who has worked hard all his life, even though he has been well rewarded and now he could say he is in a very contented stage, he said he still needs to work hard. For example, do well in each role, continue to learn English, Mandarin from his teachers. He said humbly, "Because I feel that I am not yet good at speaking English and Mandarin."
He said that if everything goes as planned, he would be in the US to make a movie by the end of this month and as for his movies with Gong Li and Michelle Yeoh, he said, "If it gets made."
